BIRTH OF THE OBSERVER
“The plastic devices, installations and interventions that make up Xavier Daniel's work provoke, simultaneously with their event, an observer's attitude on the part of the spectator: once the first reflex of surprise has passed, we must stop and decipher: what are indices and strategies contained in what we see? The artist puts us on the path by juxtaposition, friction one could say, of elements not belonging to the same field of cognition.
For example “Shown vanity” - scientific field with weaver nests, - artistic field (vanity), - lexical field (shamed), - poetic and metaphorical with “The command of Gaia” - adds the visual effect of this impressive sculpture.
What are the possible meanings, for what purpose? We cannot avoid asking questions and trying out snippets of answers. Like a laboratory assistant or a researcher who sees a scientific experiment unfold before his eyes, the spectator must verify postulates and deduce laws... as in the anthropic principle, observers are necessary not only for the observation, but even for the existence of an observable universe; I observe, therefore I am and the world exists; on the contrary, if I refuse to stop and observe, then the newly created world disappears and takes me with it. The zero point of being only begins in the incessant movement of observation of the world(s).” Christiane Fauvre-Vaccaro 12015 |
